WHO WE ARE
Melanie McCall, inspiration behind the Wootton Park Wellness Retreats.
I now realise that I have been drawn to the idea of wellbeing all my life. When I was younger it just came naturally. Keeping healthy was never anything I had to force myself to do, I liked eating well and loved keeping fit.
I enjoyed swimming, aqua-aerobics, badminton, tennis… all forms of exercise, which was fortuitous really, as bringing up five sons required a lot of energy and I always needed to be 10 steps ahead.
Once the boys were at school, I decided to take my interest up a level, so I trained and qualified as an exercise instructor, and went on to teach step and aerobics classes to all levels, from sixth-formers to septuagenarians.
Over the years, like many of us, I have experienced my fair share of highs and lows, including some very difficult life events, which encouraged me, in the past few years, to expand my knowledge of wellbeing to incorporate its mental and spiritual side, as well as the physical.
I studied mindfulness, meditation, yoga and consciousness, and at the end of 2019 I went to an ashram in India, just outside Rishikesh, on the banks of the Ganges, for an excellent life-changing yoga and meditation course, which inspired me to develop the programme we now offer at Wootton Park.
“I am so excited to be able to give you the chance to slow down and see the change that even a short stay here can make to your mental and physical wellbeing, and to your outlook on life.
This could be the reboot you have been looking for, and in the words of Primo Levi…
“If not now, when?”

We are very fortunate to live in a 450 year old farmhouse surrounded by 350 acres of fields and parkland, an idyllic, rural environment, with a calm and peaceful energy. It is an ideal setting to reconnect with nature and with yourself.
We believe that self-care is very important. It is not selfish, in this instance, to put yourself first, in fact, quite the opposite.
It’s our responsibility to look after ourselves, to be the best that we can be, so that we can thrive, and perform better as a friend, family member, colleague and human being.
