We were delighted to host a Blue Zone Inspired Retreat at Wootton Park Wellness, created and delivered by wellbeing coach Harriet Saxton. The day welcomed the dedicated staff from St Wulfstan’s Medical Surgery including GPs, nurses, care navigators, receptionists, managers and the operations team.
To ensure the surgery could stay open, the group was split into two sessions. Half the team attended in the morning and the rest joined in the afternoon, a brilliant approach that allowed everyone to benefit.
The Blue Zone concept is based on regions of the world where people live longer, healthier and happier lives. It focuses on simple wellbeing foundations such as natural movement, nourishing food, community. and a positive outlook.
The programme included an opening session on Mind and Heart Coherence with Harriet and mindset coach and hypnotherapist Lisa Cressey from Superbeing, a gentle yoga session, followed by a nutritious Blue Zone-inspired lunch from Lexi’s Loving Spoonful. As well as a nourishing lunch, the afternoon team enjoyed a guided forest bathing walk with accredited Forest Bathing practitioner Mandy Berry, before a creative Heart Math and reflection session led by Lexi and Harriet.
The retreat encouraged connection, calm and reflection for a team who spend their days caring for others. It offered space to reset, recharge and reconnect with their own wellbeing.
We actively welcome NHS and public sector teams to experience days like this to support self-care, reflection and team connection. Nature-based activities such as forest bathing, mindful movement and breathwork can be powerful tools alongside traditional medicine. It was also inspiring to hear how more GPs are exploring social prescribing for their patients.
